Packing Dreams

Long story short: For the first time in a long time I not only added a lot of links to the right hand column, but I went through and removed the blogs from classmates that never seemed to become what everyone had hoped. (Very few posts, or periods of inactivity spanning more than just a year.)

Some of my classmates now work in animation, gaming, or illustration as artists or production. Others never seemed to be able to reach that moment, still desperately trying or have moved on to other things in order to survive as adults in this world.

These are for all friends who put away their dreams, and for all dreams that fall away or are forgotten as we grow and change on our own.

Well. That didn't take long to fall off the wagon. Ended up on an unexpected trip to San Jose with a friend (very last minute. Showed up at my place for a quick cup of coffee, asked if I would head back up with her by car and fly back home. To my own surprise, I agreed. Totally worth it.)

I also ended up making my way back home from LAX without a net - my iphone had locked up when trying to access a particular application. (Darn you, AP! I just wanted to read the news!) That was exciting. Felt like I was 16 again and only way to call home was with a pay phone.

Anyway, back to attempting (mostly) daily doodles.

Spent the week after finals (and the week before Christmas) sick. I suppose I should be thankful I wasn't sick during finals, but that doesn't make it suck any less.

Sad that Hans Bacher pulled down all his blogs, including Animation Treasures. :(

Anyway, I decided to mess around a little bit with watercolor. That's right. Watercolor. singular. No way I was going to mess with the whole color spectrum. Besides, I actually like monochromatic stuff.

I wish I was doing this right now. quick sketch - I'd like to do a larger version to address the issue of the girl's floating, and her pose - as well as get a chance to draw the army of brownies coming up over the tree root. :)

I remembered to change the brightness and contrast on this one. (I often have to do that with the toned sketchbook drawings - for some reason the scan kills a lot of the contrast and original color of the paper.)

A friend recently purchased a fujitsu lifebook (tablet pc!) As she had a meeting to go to, I was babysitting it while she was gone. (read: play with sketchbook pro!) So here's what I came up with:

I am SO want one. And, I managed to get my illustration up on time this week. Sweet.

Also, we recently turned in our 'completed' second assignment for my character animation class. (First time I have attempted to animate a character in Maya in....two years? I didn't really get anywhere with curves, so this is in stepped. Me and the graph editor were like a train wreck.)

Animation is hard. (p.s. rig not by me.)

So the assignment was to have a character put on a set of boots and a raincoat. In this case Chester (M. Goodwin, making another appearance after being cut out of the belly of a large fish...) has some place to go, but it's been raining all day. This is still a work in progress, but hopefully the lack of hair is an indication.

This time I'm trying to work with a pentel brush pen. I think the original sketch (ink and water brush) has a lot more charm than what I ended up with, so I went ahead and included it below.

Little late on this one. Oops! Markers: 2 1/2. Me: 1/2. I think the focus is a bit off, so I only get half a point. However, I did manage more of the light/dark/light/dark I wanted, so I get half a point. Yay!

Anyway, who doesn't want to draw a multiple headed monster sea-creature? (and women fighting them. Hah! Girl power!) Although this may have been easier if I had gone to something larger than 8 1/2 x 11 inches. Ah well.
